CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Animal League (RAL) is sending every animal home for the holidays.

Operation Silent Night runs from December 9 through December 23. It is an effort to make sure all the homeless pets are out of the shelter and with foster or forever families for the holidays.

During the event, adoption fees for all animals will be reduced to $10.

This is the sixth year for Operation Silent Night. On its website, RAL explains “It has become such a wonderful event that we are able to keep filling our shelter even as we try to empty it.”

In 2015, RAL found permanent homes for 167 cats and dogs, and 66 animals spent the holiday with a foster family.

RAL is hosting a Luminaria Ceremony on December 23, the final evening of Operation Silent Night. Luminaries may be purchased for a minimum of $20 “In Honor” or “In Memory” of a pet or person.  To buy one, follow this link.

Operation Silent Night is presented by the Petco Foundation and made possible through sponsors and community partners.
