Man arrested in connection to brutal slaying in Spotsylvania County

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The sheriff’s office is currently investigating a brutal attack that left a store clerk dead Saturday morning.

sunoco-homicideThe attack happened at the Sunoco Station in the 5300 block of Jefferson Davis Hwy around 1:35 a.m.

Officials say a suspect entered the store and brutally attacked the store clerk with a 2 x 2 piece of wood. The victim, 54-year-old Saleh Yousef Abukhait, died at the scene.

An investigation by detectives and deputies led to the identification of David Junior Washington, 50 of Spotsylvania, as a person of interest. Washington was taken into custody, for questioning, at the Dunning Mills apartments in the City of Fredericksburg without incident.

Washington was subsequently charged with 1st Degree Murder, Robbery and Grand Larceny. He was ordered held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
