Join 8News at the James Center’s Grand Illumination

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) – Join the 8News team in Downtown Richmond for the 32nd Annual Grand Illumination of the James Center Friday night.

The James Center buildings, a 46-foot Christmas tree, and reindeer will light up when the clock strikes 6 p.m.

8News Meteorologist Katie Dupree will be the Snow Queen.

For those who want to enjoy a show before the light show, SPARC will be Christmas Caroling in front of One James Center from 5 – 5:45 pm.

Then, from 5:30 – 5:50 p.m., VCU’s Pep Band: The Peppas will get the crowd ready for the Illumination.

At 5:59 p.m., 8News Anchor Juan Conde will count down the seconds to turn on the lights.

One can also donate at the event. The James Center is partnering with Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) for the fifth year, in hopes of spreading awareness and helping kids in need have a gift under the Christmas tree this holiday.

SCAN will be at Grand Illumination collecting toys for children and families in Richmond. Through the power of donations, the organization was able to provide 200 children a gift for the holiday.

This year, the goal is to provide at least 2-3 gifts per child. During the holiday season, these children will be coming to James Center so their parents or guardians can “shop” for gifts.

From Grand Illumination night until December 9, bring unwrapped gifts for children ages 0-17 to the collection sleigh located in the Three James Center Lobby.
