Richmond Police make arrest in downtown Wells Fargo Bank robbery

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Police say they have arrested a man for allegedly robbing a Wells Fargo Bank located downtown.

Authorities have charged Joseph D. Matz, 47, with the robbery.

Police say they received a call about a robbery taking place at the 802 East Main Street Wells Fargo location at 12:53 p.m.

A bank employee reported a male handed a note to tellers demanding cash. He received cash and left on foot southbound towards Kanawha Plaza, according to police.

Shortly thereafter, they were able to detain the suspect as he ran across the Manchester Bridge.

No people were injured in the incident.
