Mother of 3 killed in east end double shooting

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Police are investigating a double shooting in Fulton Hill that killed one person and sent another to the hospital early Thursday morning.

This is the second double shooting that occurred in the city overnight.

Authorities said around 12:40 a.m., police found a man shot in the foot with non-life-threatening injuries.

The man directed police to Jennie Scher Road, where they found a woman dead from apparent gunshot wounds inside Ashley Oaks Apartments.



The woman has been identified by police as Tychelle Johnson, 25, of the 1400 block of Jennie Scher Road.

8News reporter Jonathan Costen spoke with a cousin of the male victim, who said Johnson was a mother of three children, ages one, four and six. Family members told 8News the children were inside the home when their mother was killed.

a507cfcb19d94b09b3180c35ea1342da“Two boys and a girl lost their momma,” Jenee Miles said. “My little cousins lost their mother, so we’re just looking for answers. Hopefully whoever did this turn themselves in so we can get justice for the kids and my family.”

A local women’s social club is collecting and items to ease the children’s pain this holiday season.

There is still no word from police on a motive or suspect.

Police are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone with information on this double shooting to call police.
