Man dies after being shot near Petersburg convenience store

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — One man is dead following a shooting in Peterburg Wednesday night.

The shooting occurred near the Shorts Grocery store at the intersection of Harding and Mistletoe streets. Police said they were called to the 300 block of Mistletoe Street at approximately 8:10 p.m. for reports of a person shot.

When officers arrived on scene, they found an adult male suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was transported to Southside Regional Medical Center here he later succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified as 47-year-old Anthony A. Tucker of Petersburg.

According to a police source, a group of men were gathered around the store when the shooting occurred.

The source added that this incident could be related to a ‘gun battle’ that occurred earlier in the day in the 800 block of Rome Street. No one was injured during that incident.
