KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A 28-year-old Louisiana man has been charged with murdering his parents in a manner the Knox County Sheriff’s Office called “horrific” and “gruesome.”
Joel Michael Guy was arrested Tuesday evening in Baton Rouge and charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Joel and Lisa Guy on Goldenview Lane in Knox County.
They are believed to have been murdered between Friday night and Saturday morning. Guy then went back to Baton Rouge where he was attending college. Both had multiple stab wounds and had been dismembered.
Investigators said Guy tried to dissolve his parent’s bodies in an acid-based solution. A hazmat team had to be called in to remove the material.
Investigators described the crime scene as “horrific” and “very gruesome.”
Remains were disposed of in multiple rooms throughout the house. The chief medical examiner had to remove the remains from the scene for identification.
Detectives say there was information his parents were planning to cut off some of his financial support in a conversation that was to take place on Thanksgiving. It is not yet known if this was a motive.
Detectives say Joel Guy, Jr. arrived in Knox County on Wednesday to visit with his parents. A welfare check called by Lisa Guy’s co-workers on Monday led to the discovery of “multiple, gruesome crime scenes,” according to the investigators.
Knox County detectives traveled to Baton Rouge to make the arrest. SWAT and Safe Streets team members assisted in the arrest, as did officers from the East Baton Rouge Parrish Police Office. Guy was trying to enter his vehicle at his apartment complex in Baton Rouge at the time of his arrest.
Joel Guy Jr. is currently charged with being a fugitive from justice. Further charges are pending upon his extradition to Knox County.
