HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — A Hopewell Rite Aid pharmacist thwarts a robbery attempt that occurred late Monday night.
Authorities said on November 28 at approximately 11:54 p.m., officers responded to the Rite Aid located at 2305 Oaklawn Boulevard for an attempted armed robbery.
The investigation by police revealed that the lone offender entered the business, approached the pharmacist, and asked for prescription Oxycodone.
Police said the pharmacist asked the suspect for his prescription, at which time the offender lifted his jacket and shirt — revealing a handgun in his waistband and again requested Oxycodone. The pharmacist immediately picked up the phone and called police — all the while disregarding commands from the offender that she stop, police say.
The offender then fled the business on foot, empty handed.
The offender is described by police as a black male, approximately 19-25 years old, 5’8 to 5”9, and a medium build. He was last seen wearing tan in color khaki pants, a black hooded sweatshirt with writing on the front over a white t-shirt, dark-colored shoes, and sunglasses. He also had a silver handgun in his possession.
The Hopewell Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit continues to investigate this matter.
