Findings of VSP investigation of Richmond Mayor Jones due Wednesday

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael Herring confirms that the findings of a state police investigation into Mayor Dwight Jones administration and reports of work on the mayor’s church on city time will be released Wednesday morning.

Jones asked the Virginia State Police to investigate in an effort to restore faith in his administration.

The move came after an audit revealed the city’s public works director was managing the construction of the mayor’s church on city time.

Jones’ attorney Richard Cullen told 8News that he doesn’t know the result of the investigation but says, “Jones has fully cooperated and they are eager to hear the findings.”

The seven-month multi-jurisdictional investigation has included the FBI, Jones, and a lengthy review of documents.

The VSP will not comment on the investigation.
