DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — A man fell and got stuck Sunday morning in a Durham County sinkhole that formed after Hurricane Matthew, officials say.

The incident happened around 7:30 a.m. in the sinkhole that has closed Redwood Road, Redwood Volunteer Fire officials said.

The man was stuck in mud in the sinkhole, but officials are not sure how long he was there before they arrived.

Crews were able to rescue him after about 20 minutes.

The man was transported to the hospital to be checked out, but was still being hospitalized as of 4 p.m. Sunday.

The 5000 block of Redwood Road was closed on Oct. 11 after a large hole appeared in the road as Hurricane Matthew went through.
