DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Family members of Chauncy Jones, who was shot Sunday night at a Quick Mart gas station in McKenney, are speaking out about the armed robbery that landed Jones in the ICU.
“Two guys just came in and one of them put a gun right to his face and said ‘give it up, give everything up,” Jones’ cousin, Shelby, whose last name is being kept concealed, explained as she describes the terrifying moments that led up to Jones being shot. “We were putting our hands up. We were like OK, we were trying to cooperate, and then he just started shooting.”
Shelby says she was finishing up work with her daughter, Shakalan Trisvan, at the Quick Mart on Boydton Plank Road. Trisvan says she was vacuuming when two men with bandanas busted through the door and started shooting.
“My momma told me to run, so I ran to the back of the store and seconds later I heard five gunshots back-to-back like pow, pow, pow, pow, pow,” she said.
Terrified that her mother had also been shot, Trisvan jumped on a freezer in the back of the store in attempt to stay out of sight. She opened the back door to call for help, but saw the two men run across to the BP across the street.
Meanwhile, Jones laid on the floor, clinging to life after being shot in the back and both legs.
“I was just afraid for my life,” Shelby added. “I was preparing myself actually to be shot because, I thought, if he shot him, he’s going to shoot me, but he didn’t, thank God.”

The owner of the Quick Mart says he hasn’t had any trouble in the 13 years that his shop has been there.
Frequent shoppers like Robert Harris are also left baffled.”I was just at a loss for words because you know, I’m thinking like, who would want to rob the Quick Mart. Everybody from around here comes here, you know. Nobody ever
