1. This year’s average price for a gallon of gas is about $2.15, 8 cents more than last year but 67 cents less than 2014. About 43.5 million Americans are expected to go on road trips this Thanksgiving.

2. Turkeys hate holidays. The National Turkey Federation estimates that out of the 212 million consumed in the U.S. last year, 46 million turkeys were eaten on Thanksgiving (22%), 22 million at Christmas (10%), and 19 million at Easter (9%).

3. The 60+ balloons used in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade need about 300,000 cubic feet of helium. At wholesale prices, that’s $31,200 to fill ’em up.

4. Online shopping starts before the turkey is carved. Last year, we spent $1.73 billion on Thanksgiving Day, compared to $2.74 billion on Black Friday and $2.98 billion on Cyber Monday.

5. Gonna fry that bird? The National Fire Prevention Association warns that deep fryer fires cause more than $15 million in property damage, the destruction of 900 homes, 60 injuries and five deaths every year. Enjoy a safe holiday weekend!
