How to keep your deliveries, packages safe this holiday season

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – UPS says it will deliver a record number of packages this year.

But you’re not always home when a package arrives, so we asked UPS, FedEx and the USPS how we can keep deliveries safe.

Each company said they offer delivery management services. You can determine where a package is left and when it is delivered.

Teah Simmons in La Vergne wishes she would have known these tactics. This week, someone stole a package off her front porch that included food for her children.

“It scared me,” she told News 2. “That person felt comfortable enough to come up to my home and steal something right off my front porch with me inside!”

Simmons says Walmart replaced the items, which were worth more than $150.

“We live paycheck to paycheck,” Simmons said. “Without Walmart working with me, I wouldn’t have been able to replace that stuff.”

Each company allows personalized delivery. Visit USPS.com, track your package, and select Delivery Instructions. You can request your package be left with a neighbor or held at a Post Office for pickup.

At FedEx, you can leave instructions for drivers to always ring your doorbell or knock on your door when a package is being left using FedEx Delivery Manager.

If you’re using UPS, you can tell a driver where you would like your packages left, like in the shed in the back yard, with UPS My Choice. UPS drivers can enter that information into their handheld computers for future deliveries.
