Man flown to hospital after crashing into tree in Chesterfield County

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A portion of River Road in south Chesterfield County was closed for several hours Friday evening as police investigated a two-vehicle accident that resulted in one person being flown to the hospital.

According to Chesterfield Police, a man was traveling down River Road in an older model vehicle at roughly 4:25 p.m. when another vehicle pulling out of a driveway caused him to run off the road and strike a tree. Because the older model vehicle does not have airbags or seat belts, police said the driver suffered a ‘significant’ laceration to his head.

The driver was originally medflighted to VCU Medical Center with injuries that were described as life-threatening, but police now say the man has been speaking with medics and is expected to be OK.

No word yet on whether or not charges will be filed as police continue to investigate.
