How to prepare in case of a winter power outage

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — In the event of a winter storm, preparing to be without power is important.

Dominion Virginia Power serves many customers in Central Virginia and just like at 8News, Dominion has its own team of meteorologists.

Dominion is able to rely on them to predict weather and then make plans to respond. That way, you can get your power back as safely and as soon as possible.

“We’re stocking up our equipment and we’re stocking up our trucks to make sure that the linemen have everything that they need on them — that they’re gassed up and ready to go,” said David Botkins, spokesman for Dominion Virginia Power. “We’ve got people lined up, on call, and available to respond if and when we need them this year.”

Dominion is also encouraging you to check out the trees around your home that might pose a problem this winter weather season.

Ten inches of snow on tree limbs can cause them to break and fall — and if lines are near, there are dangerous threats besides power outages.
