Holiday shoppers get an early start to Black Friday sales

CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WRIC) — People are already hitting the stores in preparation for Black Friday.

At Toys “R” Us in Chesterfield, workers said the crowds have been steady but calm.

Some shoppers said they like that they can get their shopping out of the way a day earlier.

“I’d rather shop than eat. So it’s fun for me,” Joanne Gray said.

At the front of the line before the store opened, shoppers said they chose to eat their Thanksgiving meal early.

“I planned thanksgiving to get here as soon as I could,” Yvonne Lahaie said.

Many hoping that by getting in line early, they could snatch the season’s hottest toy.

“I was here just for the Hatchimal for my niece, but they don’t have them so I’m just going to go in and putter around,” Lahaie said. “But it’s been fun being out.”

For the Gray family, Toys “R” Us was just the first stop.

“We have a strategic plan mapped out by my wife,” Robert Gray said.

“We’re going to Walmart, Target and A.C. Moore, Michael’s, Stein Mart and then we’ll go home and do Kohl’s online,” Joanne Gray said.

Not everyone has made Thanksgiving their shopping day, some just came to get one quick gift.

“It was totally last minute, but we’re going back to celebrate Thanksgiving with our family,” Jennie Dinh said.
