RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — For the second year, Kroger Mid-Atlantic and Feedmore partnered together to help Meals On Wheels volunteers and feed 972 homebound neighbors in need ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Kroger Mid-Atlantic works with Feedmore year-round. But today’s delivery was extra special when Kroger covered the cost for food and gave a $10 gift card to Meals On Wheels volunteers — driving throughout the week to provide a hot meal for those in need.
“Kroger made a really significant donation for us and it really has made an impact on our Thanksgiving meals, our clients, and our volunteers,” Katie Jantzi, Director of Meals on Wheels said. “More than 900 clients that we’re delivering to, get a Thanksgiving dinner with turkey and all the trimmings — which we all look forward to this time of the year.”
With Kroger’s help, Feedmore saved about $7,000. Jantzi said Meals On Wheels volunteers delivered Thanksgiving meals on 93 routes throughout the Richmond and Tri-cities area, Wednesday morning.
“The mission of the Meals On Wheels program can last all year long,” Jantzi said, “and while it’s wonderful to celebrate on Thanksgiving, let’s remember our homebound neighbors throughout the year as well as the volunteers that are out there on the road all the time making this work for us.”
Since 2014, Kroger Mid-Atlantic has donated 746,068 meals to FeedMore through a variety of initiatives.
