RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — It’s a gift that keeps on giving. A local organization came together to give to veterans in need.
The combat veteran support group called “The Richmond Band of Brothers and Sisters” met Tuesday morning at the Save-A-Lot on East Belt Boulevard.
The group gathered goodies to make about 200 gift baskets to hand out to veterans in need in the community.
“It’s very important because we do have a lot of veterans who are in need with meals, finances, and so forth,” said organizer Lawrence Davis
They then headed across the across the street to Saint Paul’s Baptist Church to distribute the gifts.
“So what our organization has done over the years is we have been giving holiday baskets, for Thanksgiving as well as Christmas,” Davis said. “It really helps to bring them together and make them not feel so alone.”
“The Richmond Band of Brothers and Sisters” meets every other Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the corner of Hull Street and East Belt Boulevard.
