Crews contain Nelson County brush fire that burned about 40 acres

NELSON Co., Va. (WSET) — Crews from the Department of Forestry will be headed back to the scene of a brush fire that burned around 40 acres in Nelson County. According to the Lovingston Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page, they were dispatched to Eades Lane for a reported brush fire around 7:45 Sunday evening.

Officials say they found the blaze rapidly spreading and endangering structures.

According to the Facebook post, the Department of Forestry worked with the department to get containment lines around homes and extinguish what they could. The post says the fire was turned over to Forestry personnel and their crews left the scene around 11:30 p.m.

Officials say no damage to structures have been reported, and only two firefighters had minor injuries.

Crews from Piney River Fire Department, Faber Fire Department, Rockfish Valley Fire Department, Wintergreen Fire Rescue, Gladstone Fire Department, Rockfish Valley Rescue Squad, Roseland Rescue Squad, Nelson County Public Safety, Nelson County EMS, Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, North Garden Fire Department, and the Virginia Department of Forestry responded to the scene.
