4 children confirmed dead in Indiana house fire

CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office confirmed to News 18 that four children died in an early morning house fire in Flora.

The fire was called in around 3:30 a.m. in a residence on E. Columbia Street.

We were told four children and their mother were inside the home. The youngest child was 4, and the oldest was 13.There is no word on the woman’s condition yet.

Two law enforcement officers were also injured.

Carroll County Sheriff Tobe Leazenby said deputy Drew Yoder was flown by helicopter to a hospital burn unit in Fort Wayne. He had received burns to his hands and forehead. According to Leazenby, the “next 48 to 72 hours are crucial” for Yoder’s recovery.

Flora police officer Josh Disinger was also hurt, but we do not the know the extent of his injuries.
