DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia State Police said that they are investigating after what appears to be an accidental, self-inflicted fatal shooting on I-85 in Dinwiddie County.
Police said Kavon A. Cooper, 21, was one of three adults riding in a vehicle traveling south on I-85 when he accidentally shot a gun while waving it around. The bullet struck Cooper, causing serious injuries.
The driver of the vehicle pulled off at Boydton Plank road and pulled into a restaurant parking lot to get help.
Cooper died at the scene. Neither the driver or the other passenger was injured.
The incident remains under investigation.
