2 suspects arrested in burglary turned shooting in Fluvanna County

FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Fluvanna County deputies arrested two suspects who they say were involved in a burglary turned shooting that happened at a garage in the county.

On Friday, deputies arrested Dante J. Givens and Thomas A. Jackson, both of whom are from Charlottesville.

The two were arrested in connection with an incident in which a property owner was shot Friday afternoon after he walked in on a burglary in progress.

The incident occurred in the 2000 block of Lake Monticello Road after a group of burglars shot at the owner and his associates as they entered the garage. The property owner and his associates returned fire, causing the burglars to flee.

As a result, the owner was shot and suffered non-life threatening injuries. He was later transported to UVA Medical center for treatment.

Givens and Jackson have been charged with burglary, malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Jackson was also charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Both men are being held without bail and are scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

Authorities say they are still seeking additional suspects, as well as a gray Lexus SUV that was involved. The investigation is ongoing. The Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office asks that anyone with information contact the Sheriff’s Office at 434-589-8211. Because the investigation is active, no further information is available.
