Police identify man found fatally shot inside car in Petersburg

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — Police are conducting a homicide investigation after one man was found dead in a car early Tuesday morning in Petersburg.

Authorities said at approximately 1:16 a.m., police were called to the 600 block of Morton Avenue for shots fired.

Petersburg Police arrived at the area and found an adult male, later identified as Darian A. Glover, 22, from Prince George County, deceased from a gunshot wound. The next of kin has been notified. Police are continuing to search for evidence and speaking to all potential witnesses for more information into the shooting.

Authorities also said another man walked into SRMC with a gunshot wound. This male is in stable condition and it is confirmed that it is related to the shooting in the 600 block of Morton Avenue.

Timothy Howerton has lived in the neighborhood for 13 years. Howerton said he heard at least six gunshots ring out, about 100 feet away from his front door, and saw a bullet hit his neighbor’s car. He said the entire neighborhood was shaken by the incident.

“To see our young people to have to wake up early this morning to senseless violence, it’s sad,” Howerton said. “My kids haven’t been able to sleep all night, because the police have been here.”

Tuesday morning, Howerton stood outside his home at the nearby bus stop to reassure his children and their friends. Howerton said he hopes the community can come together to put an end to the senseless violence.

“Every life matters, you know, think twice,” Howerton said. “As a City, we got to turn things around and if we are going to do that it has to start with us first. Each one have to teach one and reach one, so that we can save one.”
