VSP investigating after 3 people were shot on I-64 in Hampton


HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia State Police are asking for the public’s help after three people were shot at on I-64 eastbound at Pine Chapel Road early Sunday morning.

Virginia State Police were dispatched around 1 a.m. to where the victims’ car had stopped in the area of 42nd Street in Newport News.

A 2005 Lexus was traveling eastbound on I-64 when a dark burgundy car pulled along the driver’s side and fired shots at the vehicle. Troopers determined the car had been shot multiple times.

The adult male driver of the Lexus and two of the three adult male passengers were taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News to be treated for their injuries. One victim is suffering from life-threatening injuries and a fourth passenger was not hurt.

The incident remains under investigation by the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Chesapeake Field Office.
