Rally on Monument Avenue in Richmond spreads love

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Just a few blocks from where monuments were vandalized last week, a group held a peace rally on Saturday.

The demonstrators handed out stickers, blew bubbles and held signs encouraging people driving by to honk for peace while they stood at the end of Monument Avenue near Boulevard.

“People are fighting against each other so we just came out … basically to put a few smiles on a face or two,” rally organizer Stanislav Vorozhkov said.

On Wednesday three confederate monument statues were vandalized. One was spray painted with graffiti reading “your vote was a hate crime.”  The graffiti has since been cleaned off.
