Police: Spotsylvania County worker dead after being run over by big rig

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (AP) — Police say a worker at a trucking company in Virginia was killed when another employee drove a tractor-trailer over him.

The Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star reports that 54-year-old John Patterson of Spotsylvania was pronounced dead at the scene Friday.

Police say the driver of the rig went into the business and left the truck running. Police say the driver and Patterson had discussed a mechanical problem with the truck.

Authorities say Patterson went to work on the brake lines while the man was inside the business. They say the driver returned to the parking lot to move the truck to another area and didn’t realize Patterson was underneath it.

Authorities say they believe it was an accident and no charges have been filed.
