Albemarle County man charged with murdering son

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — An Albemarle County man has been arrested and charged with the murder of his adult son.

Albemarle Police said that Donald T. Short has been charged with second-degree murder and with using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Donald was initially charged with malicious wounding, but the charges were upgraded when his son, 47-year-old Matthew J. Short, died Friday night of gunshot wounds.

Officers responded to a reported shooting around 11 p.m. Wednesday night in the 2400 block of Commonwealth Drive when they found Matthew Short suffering from gunshot wounds.

Donald Short was arrested shortly thereafter.

Albemarle County police said that this is the first murder in Albemarle County since September 2015.
