RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Police are investigating after being notified of an attempted abduction that occurred near Virginia Commonwealth University’s campus Wednesday night.

VCU Police say the victim was walking in the 100 block of N. Morris Street just after 8 p.m., when approached from behind by a male who grabbed the victim.

The victim resisted and the male brandished a knife in a threatening manner, police say. The victim separated from the suspect and the man ran south in the alley.

The suspect was described as wearing a grey-hooded sweatshirt.

Authorities say it can be assumed that conditions continue to exist that may pose a threat to members and guests of the community.

Police have increased patrols in the area and are continuing to investigate.
