Great 8 Happenings: To help you through your post-election hangover

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — 8News is here to help you get through the post-election malaise with a rundown of local events happening in and around Richmond.

Garth Brooks at the Richmond Coliseum

Country music legend Garth Brooks plays Richmond for the first time in 19 years.

When: Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. and 7:30

Where: Richmond Coliseum, 601 East Leigh Street, Richmond, Virginia 23219

Cost: $67 and up



Opening Day at The Rink at West Broad Village

Tis the beginning of the season for ice rinks and this one is hosting its grand opening today. Great place to skate, learn to skate, or just hang out.

When: 3 – 11 p.m.

Where: 2301 Old Brick Road, 23060 Glen Allen

Cost: Adult: $10, Children (10 and under): $8, Skate Rental: $4, Skate Aid: $5

InLight Richmond


Organized by 1708 Gallery, this is a free, public exhibition of light-based art and performances. Each year, InLight Richmond invites artists to respond to a particular neighborhood, attracting audiences to unique areas of Richmond

When: 7 p.m. – Midnight

Where: Scott’s Addition

Cost: Free

Bowie vs Queen Dance Party

In an effort to help people decompress from the stress of the election cycle, the folks at the Hofheimer Building are hosting a David Bowie/Queen themed dance party, with free admission.

When: 9 p.m. – 2 a.m.

Where: Hofheimer Building

Cost: Free, but you can pay $10 for a VIP ticket which includes two free drinks


Drive-By Truckers


Drive-By Truckers have always been outspoken, telling a distinctly American story via craft, character, and concept, all backed by sonic ambition and social conscience.

When: doors at 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m.

Cost: $28 at the door


Ingrid Michaelson


In just a decade, Michaelson has released six albums (five of which have charted) and ten singles (eight charted). Now she’s playing the National in Richmond.

Epilepsy Awareness Walk

A walk to raise awareness and money for an ailment which affects one in every 26 people

When:1 p.m.

Cost: $25 donation


Movie Club Richmond presents Idiocracy

Free movie screening of the Mike Judge cult classic starring Luke Wilson, Maya Rudolph, Dax Shepard and Terry Crews. Also trivia for prizes afterwards.

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Strange Matter

Cost: Free, donations accepted
