RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — There is a new teacher of the year in the city of Richmond Friday morning.
Clary Carleton received the award at a ceremony Thursday night for her work at Open High School.
She has been teaching English there at the school since 1999.
Carleton said she is proud to represent Richmond Public Schools and stand alongside the other teachers who were recognized.
“It was so inspiring to be a part of that and really part of this profession that is so vital to our community’s health,” Carleton said. “Just playing a small part in that is just amazing to me so I am very, very thankful.
Carleton was also given $1,000, an iPad air and a one night stay at the Crowne Plaza Downtown Richmond hotel.
