PETERSBURG, Va (WRIC) — Petersburg Public Schools is welcoming a new member to its school board.
Wayne Scott was elected by 96 percent of the voters on Tuesday. He is currently principal at J.H. Blackwell Elementary School in Richmond.
Scott is a former principal of Greensville County High School. He served there from 2007 to 2013. He also served as principal at George Mason Elementary School from 2003 until 2007.
He also completed training as a turnaround specialist with Richmond Public Schools and also worked for the school’s Office of Improvement.
Scott, a North Carolina native, earned a doctorate degree in education administration from the University of Cincinnati. He said he has always wanted to run for the board since moving to Petersburg.
He says he wants to work closely with the superintendent to get all of the schools accredited. His focus is serving as an advocate for student-centered policies that will help the children become academically successful.
Two other school board members who were re-elected to the school board are Atiba H. Muse representing Ward 2 and Bernard J. Lundy Jr. representing Ward 6.
The men take their positions on the board in January of 2017.
