22-year-old man dies in Jackson Ward shooting; suspect sought

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — One man has died following a shooting in Richmond’s Jackson Ward neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim as Tyrell L. Johnson, 22, of the 1400 block of Gavestone Court.

Police said at approximately 2:18 p.m. yesterday, officers responded to the 300 block of W. Marshall Street for a report of a person shot. They arrived and located Johnson suffering from an apparent gunshot wound lying on the sidewalk, police say. A second victim, who suffered several abrasions, was located nearby.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Johnson succumbed to his injuries later that afternoon.

Detectives are actively pursuing all available leads in the case and continue to gather information about the incident.
