RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Wednesday in Monroe Park in Richmond.
The ceremony marks the beginning of a $6 million renovation project.
The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, and will take place at the corner of West Franklin Street and North Laurel Streets.
Mayor Dwight Jones will join the Monroe Park Conservancy, Virginia Commonwealth University and major donors at the groundbreaking.
The park will close on November 14th and remain closed 12 to 18 months.
The project will include extensive infrastructure upgrades to the underground sewer, gas, water and electrical systems. The renovations also seek to make the park more environmentally sustainable.
