RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Thursday night during a team meeting one of Ram Nation and VCU Basketball’s favorite seniors, point guard Torey Burston, was rewarded for his hard work and patience as a walk on.
After a video in the team meeting room describing what makes Burston a great VCU Ram, head coach Will Wade walked in front of the team and revealed a scholarship for the Trinity Episcopal graduate. As you can see in this tweet from the team, it was an emotional reception:
Burston is a redshirt senior who joined the VCU men’s basketball program midway through the 2012-2013 season as a walk on. He’s appeared in 50 career games in three years on the roster.
Against Fordham on January 13th, Burston recorded three points, a steal and a rebound in six minutes on the floor.
Coach Wade in the video shown before the big reveal say Burston, “is our most tenacious on-ball defender, who can get under players’ skin.”
Now on scholarship, Torey Burston could see consistent minutes for the Rams this season as he finds his fit in the rotation with JeQuan Lewis and Johnny Williams.
