Suspect assaults 2 deputies, gets away in stolen vehicle in Hanover County

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man who assaulted two deputies during a traffic stop and then got away in a stolen vehicle Friday morning.

The incident began shortly before 11 a.m. when deputies pulled the suspect over on Mechanicsville Turnpike near Interstate 295. During the stop, the suspect, 34-year-old Marcus Darrell Wright, became combative and assaulted two deputies before fleeing on foot.

The suspect fled towards I-295 where a motorist had pulled over on the shoulder and was out of his vehicle. Authorities say Wright jumped into the vehicle and stole it. The vehicle has since been recovered in Essex County.

Both deputies sustained minor injuries during the incident.

Wright is wanted on the following charges: Two counts of assault on law enforcement, eluding, reckless driving, unauthorized use of a vehicle, larceny and possession of marijuana.
