Something “Strange” in your neighborhood movie theater this weekend

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — One of Marvel’s most unusual heroes is hitting the big screen this weekend.

“Doctor Strange” stars Benedict Cumberbatch as a neurosurgeon whose career seems to be over after his hands are injured in a car crash.

He turns to a mystical source for help and becomes a powerful wizard who can bend time and space. He helps to protect the planet from threats.

Costarring Tilda Swindon, Chiwetal Ejiofor and Rachel Mcadams, the film is rated PG-13.

Move over smurfs, the Trolls are taking over. The popular toys from generations past are getting their own animated film.

The mythical rainbow colored critters have lived in hiding to keep from being eaten. But, they’ve been careless and old enemies are once again hunting for them.

Starring the voices of Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake, “Trolls” is rated PG.

“Hacksaw Ridge” is the amazing true story of an unarmed US soldier of the front lines in the Pacific during WWII who saved 75 of his fellow soldiers in the battle of Okinawa.

Andrew Garfield stars as medic Desmond Doss, who was born in nearby Lynchburg, Virginia. The war drama costars Vince Vaughn and Hugo Weaving. Directed by Mel Gibson, it’s rated R.
