Residents fed up as trash piles up at Prince George County apartment complex

PRINCE GEORGE, Va. (WRIC) — Tenants of Independent Place in Prince George are dealing with an unsightly pile of stinking trash around their apartments. The apartment complex is located on Owens Way.

After no one removed the trash for a week, tenants picked up the phone and called 8News for help.

“The compactor has overflowed, so people are just throwing the garbage right there,” Kwamayne Davis said.

Davis said he’s been holding his trash inside his apartment for days because there’s no place to properly discard it.

“We give them a little bit of time to try to address it,” Prince George County Administrator Percy Ashcraft told 8News. “If they don’t address it, our ordinance is 30 days, and we certainly can file an action against them in court.”

According to a letter sent to tenants by Independent Place management, the trash compactor is broken but will be repaired Friday. The letter also stated that the trash will be removed Friday as well.

Prince George County administrators say the Independence Place managers are committed to having the issue resolved by Monday.
