Louisa County deputy struck by car while assisting broken down vehicle

LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A deputy with the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office was struck by a vehicle on Route 15 Friday evening.

The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office confirms to 8News that deputy D.J. Hart was struck by a car while he was assisting another vehicle that had broken down on Rt. 15 at Rocky Road near Gordonsville at roughly 6:50 p.m.

Hart was transported to UVA Hospital in Charlottesville.

According to the Louisa County Sheriff’s Facebook page, Deputy Hart was in surgery Friday night. He suffered two severely broken legs, but no life-threatening injuries.

Authorities say it does not appear that alcohol was involved in the wreck.

No other information has been released at this time as Virginia State Police continue to investigate.
