Volunteers to build new playground at Reid Elementary School

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — 250 volunteers will help build a new playground at G.H. Reid Elementary School, nearly five months after the playground was destroyed due to arson.

CarMax, CarMax Foundation, KaBOOM!, Communities In Schools of Richmond partnered with  Richmond Public Schools to give more than 750 students a playground.

Back in June, Reid Elementary School’s playground was intentionally set on fire and destroyed.

Thursday morning, volunteers will build a new playground in six hours.

Communities In Schools of Richmond said students voted on which design they wanted at G.H. Reid Elementary and it will be one of a kind.

RPS will kick off the ceremony at 8:30 a.m. and have a ribbon cutting ceremony from 2:30 – 3 p.m. at Reid Elementary School on Whitehead Road.

This project is among the 33 playgrounds the CarMax Foundation and KaBOOM! have built across the country, the fourth in Richmond.
