RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Democratic Party of Virginia, The Richmond City Democratic Committee and Levar Stoney’s campaign announced Wednesday night that they would be taking legal actions against Joe Morrissey’s campaign for violating Virginia law regarding political advertisements.

According to a release put out by the Democratic Party of Virginia, the advertisement falsely implied that the Morrissey campaign was endorsed by the Richmond City Democratic Committee and failed to inform voters who paid for the advertisement.

As a result of this, Stoney’s campaign said that they will file a complaint with the Virginia State Board of Elections and send a cease and desist letter to Joe Morrissey’s campaign.

Rebecca Slutzky, the Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Virginia spoke in a press release about the legal action against Morrissey.

“The Morrissey campaign is engaged in a flagrant and intentionally misleading violation of campaign regulations,” Slutzky said. “Morrissey does not have the endorsement of the Democratic Party of Virginia or the Richmond City Democratic Committee, and we are requesting that he cease these activities immediately.”
