Chesterfield County registrar sued for allegedly concealing election records

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A federal lawsuit has been filed against Chesterfield County’s registrar for allegedly refusing to disclose election records.

The Public Interest Legal Foundation filed separate lawsuits against Chesterfield County Registrar Larry Haake and City of Manassas Registrar Susan Reed for refusing to disclose election records showing more than 1,000 non-citizens improperly registered to vote in Virginia.

The lawsuit claims the public has the right to inspect certain election records, and that the Public Interest Legal Foundation was denied that right after requesting to inspect and duplicate records that showed foreigners who were registered to vote.

8News reached out to Haake for comment. He told us the lawsuit, “is news to me.”
