NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia State Police are still investigating the cause of a fatal crash that occurred late Monday night on I-64 west in New Kent County.
Police said the crash occurred at roughly 11:40 p.m. when a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes and struck another vehicle head-on.
Authorities say the wrong-way driver, who has been identified as 25-year-old James C. Pavlikowski of Virginia Beach, died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt. A female who was driving the second vehicle was taken to VCU Medical Center with serious injuries.
Alcohol is being considered a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
