VCU Dental Students build wheelchair costume for local kid

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — One of the area’s finest Halloween costumes will be going to Chloe, who lives in Louisa County.

The 11-year-old will be a mermaid riding a sea turtle.

Students at VCU’s School of Dentistry worked with the non-profit group “magic wheelchair” to make the costume.

The group was quite happy to help. One builder, Travis Weimer, caught up with 8News to talk about the experience.

“It feels awesome. We are excited about helping a family out … anything you can do to add to the happiness or joy in their life,” Weimer said.

Chloe has Rett Syndrome. She can’t speak but understands what’s going on.

It is easy to tell she is thrilled by the costume and ready to trick or treat.
