Suspect sought in attempted armed robbery of Richmond taxi driver

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Detectives in Richmond are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect in a recent attempted armed robbery of a taxi driver.

Police say the taxi cab driver picked up the suspect shortly after 8 a.m. Friday in the 2900 block of Chamberlayne Avenue and drove him to the 1300 block of Nelson Street. Before exiting the cab, the suspect displayed a gun and began struggling with the driver.

The driver was not injured, and the suspect fled on foot into the Wynwood Apartments.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, 175-pound black male who wore a Redskins sweatshirt, light blue pants or jeans and a stocking hat at the time of the incident.
