RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Children at a local school are learning about the election this week with the help of some animal friends.
Teachers at the Richmond Montessori School say they wanted to teach about the election process without talking about the candidates.
So, they decided to elect a class mascot.
Each animal will have a primary.
Teachers say most children only know about the election from what they hear around them.
“They basically know what their parents say. So they hear about it from their parents and say this is who we are voting for and it’s more about what their parents’ views are, so they don’t really get the details behind what the views are and what the candidates represent,” teacher Stacy O’Shea said.
O’Shea said the students used animals from every continent to choose their mascot.
