Man caught on tape stealing Relay for Life donation jars from Henrico County business

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The owner of Odd Balls Antiques & More in Henrico County is asking the public’s help in identifying the suspect who stole two Relay for Life donations jars on Wednesday, October 19.

The store’s surveillance video captured the moment the man took both jars from the store’s front counter and then fled the store.

Store owner John Wells Jr. says what’s more appalling is that two hours after the man walked off with one donation jar, he came back and stole the second.

“To come in and purposely steal from charity to me is as low as you can get,” says Wells.

The thief got away with close to $150 meant for the American Cancer Society. The store’s co-owner Lindsey Wells, whose mom is a cancer survivor, says she’s been collecting Relay for Life Donations for 27 years.

“Everybody wants to help support the fundraiser and then he came in and just took it away,” explains L. Wells, “”Makes me mad too because he did it pretty much right in front of my face.”

The store’s owners posted the video on Facebook. They hope the power of social media will help identify the man and lead to his arrest.

“How calm he was when he did this, it’s not his first time,” adds J. Wells, “So how many more businesses has he stolen from? How many more charities has he stolen from? I’m hoping someone will recognize him and turn him in so we can stop this.”

If you recognize the man, call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000
