WOODLAND, N.C. (WAVY) — A 12-year-old girl from the town of Woodland was found safe Monday morning, hours after an AMBER Alert was issued by the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina.
According to the alert, Zahreiah Moni-Symone Gilliam had been last seen at 507 Easy Main Street in Woodland.
Sheriff Jack E. Smith said early Monday that they did not know where Gilliam might be or who she might be with. Gilliam was reportedly playing in the yard of an apartment complex around 6 p.m. Sunday while visiting her grandmother.
Smith says Gilliam’s grandmother called for to come inside, and thought Gilliam was coming inside the apartment behind.
When Gilliam did not come inside, Smith says the grandmother went back outside and started calling for her, but could not find her.
Gilliam has no history of running away, according to Smith. The FBI sent agents to assist with the investigation.
Smith confirmed a couple of hours later that Gilliam had been found safe and unharmed.
