STOCKTON, Calif. (KRON) — Police have arrested a couple in California on charges of forced labor.
Officers say a complaint showed the couple hired seven different women at different times over the last two years to be a nanny for $1,400 a month.
But each one of the seven women said they were not paid and had to work from 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m.
One of the women said she was only able to eat one cup of rice and a cup of coffee a day.
Neighbors said they are shocked this happened in such a quiet town.
The couple has a 3-week-old baby and a 4-year-old child.
They are scheduled to appear in court in the upcoming weeks.
