RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) – Everyone got a dose of reality last week after Virginia Tech and Virginia both lost and the Redskins won. Robb Crocker is pacing the field with Mitch Carr nipping at his heels. Chip Brierre still remains in the cellar.

As always, feel free to play along at home.

king-robbRobb Crocker, 8News Digital Content Manager (Last week – 4-4, Overall – 30-18)

Hopewell Blue Devils @ Matoaca Warriors

Pick: Matoaca Warriors

We all know that no one leaves Matoaca’s home field a winner.

North Carolina Tar Heels @ Virginia Cavaliers

Pick: North Carolina Tar Heels

I want to pick Virginia – but I just don’t trust them.

Eastern Michigan Eagles@ Western Michigan Broncos

Pick: Western Michigan Broncos

The Broncos win by double-digits

Arkansas Razorbacks @ Auburn Tigers

Pick: Auburn Tigers

Tigers get a late field goal on the way to a win.

Texas A&M Aggies @ Alabama Crimson Tide

Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide

This is the most dominant Alabama team since Forrest Gump played.

Ole Miss Rebels @ LSU Tigers

Pick: LSU Tigers

This will be another nail-biter from the SEC.

Richmond Spiders @ Elon Phoenix

Pick: Richmond Spiders

The Spiders will win by at least 14 points.

Washington Redskins @Detroit Lions

Pick: Detroit Lions

I’m still having trust issues with the Redskins. And, if this game turns into a shootout, which I think it will, I’d rather have Matthew Stafford than Kirk Cousins.

Mitch 2016Mitch Carr, 8Sports Director (Last week – 3-5, Overall – 29-19)

Hopewell Blue Devils @ Matoaca Warriors

Pick: Matoaca Warriors

I pick Matoaca. We expected Hopewell to be a runaway favorite in 3A, but they have not met those expectations. Meanwhile, Matoaca seems to be one of the best third-tier teams in the area. They’re not on the top 5 level; not on the 6-12 level; but they’re the best of the rest, in my opinion.

North Carolina Tar Heels @ Virginia Cavaliers

Pick: North Carolina Tar Heels

The ‘Heels got stuck in the mud against Virginia Tech, but that seems like an aberration. Virginia’s lack of defense is not an aberration.

Eastern Michigan Eagles@ Western Michigan Broncos

Pick: Western Michigan

Look out for the Bronco’s PJ Fleck to be the next hot name for a Big 10 job. Look out for Danny Rocco’s name to be thrown around to replace Fleck.

Arkansas Razorbacks @ Auburn Tigers

Pick: Arizona Razorbacks

The pigs were impressive against Ole Miss, and I think they will be too physical for Auburn.

Texas A&M Aggies @ Alabama Crimson Tide

Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide

The Tide is a 17-point favorite. That number seems way too high, but I’d take them on the Moneyline.

Ole Miss Rebels @ LSU Tigers

Pick: Ole Miss Rebels

LSU’s offense hasn’t shown me anything, especially since Leonard Fournette seems to be pulling a Clowney by remaining just injured enough to not risk his draft stock.

Richmond Spiders @ Elon Phoenix

Pick: Richmond Spiders

I was impressed with Elon winning at William and Mary until the Tribe continued to struggle week in and week out. I’m much more impressed with Richmond’s shutout of Villanova.

Washington Redskins @Detroit Lions

Pick: Washington Redskins

The Lions are not good, and the Redskins may be. Maybe.

will-12Will Armbruster, 8News Digital Producer (Last week – 4-4, Overall – 28-20)

Hopewell Blue Devils @ Matoaca Warriors

Pick: Hopewell Blue Devils

Most of my colleagues are taking Matoaca at home, but I like Hopewell to right the ship and make people remember why they were pegged as one of the top teams in the state this preseason.

North Carolina Tar Heels @ Virginia Cavaliers

Pick: North Carolina Tar Heels

I’m not reading much into the loss against Va. Tech. I think UNC wins big on the road.

Eastern Michigan Eagles@ Western Michigan Broncos

Pick: Western Michigan Broncos

The westerners favored by 22 at home? No brainer.

Arkansas Razorbacks @ Auburn Tigers

Pick: Auburn Tigers

I like Auburn at home coming off a bye.

Texas A&M Aggies @ Alabama Crimson Tide

Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide

Why pick against the best team in college football? It works every other week …

Ole Miss Rebels @ LSU Tigers

Pick: Ole Miss Rebels

This season has been a train wreck for LSU.

Richmond Spiders @ Elon Phoenix

Pick: Richmond Spiders

Don’t know much about Elon, so give me the Spiders on the road.

Washington Redskins @Detroit Lions

Pick: Detroit Lions

They’re hot right now, but I’m betting against the Redskins’ offense keeping up with Matthew Stafford at home this week.

ronRon Carthen, 8News Editor & Vlogger (Last week – 3-5, Overall – 28-20)

Hopewell Blue Devils @ Matoaca Warriors

Pick: Hopewell Blue Devils

Should be an interesting matchup but I’m going with a Hopewell road win here.

North Carolina Tar Heels @ Virginia Cavaliers

Pick: North Carolina Tar Heels

I don’t see a let down here following a big win at Miami last week. Mitch Trubisky should have a great day against the Cavalier defense.

Eastern Michigan Eagles@ Western Michigan Broncos

Pick: Western Michigan Broncos

I can’t see the Broncos losing a big home game like this one as they remain undefeated. Look for Zach Terrell and Corey Davis to have a big day.

Arkansas Razorbacks @ Auburn Tigers

Pick: Auburn Tigers

The Tigers offense has finally figured it out and they will win this shootout.

Texas A&M Aggies @ Alabama Crimson Tide

Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide

The Crimson Tide are a 19-point favorite which is stunning but I put my money on Nick Saban and his players in a big home game.

Ole Miss Rebels @ LSU Tigers

Pick: LSU Tigers

Quite a resurgence for the Tigers led by interim coach Ed Orgeron. It’ll be a close one but I see the Rebels dropping their 4th game of the season.

Richmond Spiders @ Elon Phoenix

Pick: Richmond Spiders

The Spiders offense will dominate in Burlington, NC. No way they lose this game.

Washington Redskins @Detroit Lions

Pick: Washington Redskins

I thought about this one being an upset but I’m going with the Redskins to win 5-straight games in a game that I can see going down to the wire.

Kerri webKerri O’Brien, 8News Investigative Reporter (Last week – 3-5, Overall – 27-21)

Hopewell Blue Devils @ Matoaca Warriors

Pick: Matoaca Warriors

Home field advantage.

North Carolina Tar Heels @ Virginia Cavaliers

Pick: North Carolina Tar Heels

UVA has no defense. UNC scores all day long.

Eastern Michigan Eagles@ Western Michigan Broncos

Pick: Western Michigan Broncos

I am solely basing this on the fact that I once dated at guy who went to Western Michigan. We went to a game. They are good tailgaters and solid fans. That home team crowd will cheer the Broncos on to victory.

Arkansas Razorbacks @ Auburn Tigers

Pick: Arkansas Razorbacks

They are really are having a great season, very impressive against Ole Miss.

Texas A&M Aggies @ Alabama Crimson Tide

Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide

No brainer.  Bama is hot and unstoppable.

Ole Miss Rebels @ LSU Tigers

Pick: LSU Tigers

Mostly because I got burned by Ole Miss last week.  I don’t think they are as strong as I had first thought. However, I may regret this because LSU’s offense is not stellar.

Richmond Spiders @ Elon Phoenix

Pick: Richmond Spiders

That shutout last week against Nova was impressive. I like the Spiders team this year.

Washington Redskins @Detroit Lions

Pick: Detroit Lions

These Skins are confusing me.  Impressive win against my Eagles, finally looking like the team I said they would be at the beginning of the season. However, the Lions are also gelling and I just think there is more talent on that team.

amanda-malkowskiAmanda Malkowski, 8News Good Morning Richmond Anchor (Last week – 3-5, Overall – 26-22)

Hopewell Blue Devils @ Matoaca Warriors

Pick: Matoaca Warriors

Tune into the 8Sports Blitz for all the headlines! I’m going with the sports boys’ pick and picking Matoaca.

North Carolina Tar Heels @ Virginia Cavaliers

Pick: North Carolina Tar Heels

I’ll go with UNC. Neither team looks great.

Eastern Michigan Eagles@ Western Michigan Broncos

Pick: Western Michigan

I lived in central Michigan, so this is a toss-up. I’ll go with Western because I was closer to them, but we shall see.

Arkansas Razorbacks @ Auburn Tigers

Pick: Arkansas Razorbacks

Arkansas! I think they’re having a great season, and I’ve picked them right most weeks, so I’m going to keep on.

Texas A&M Aggies @ Alabama Crimson Tide

Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide

Bama Bama Bama…. Keep it going. I think they’ll win, especially with the home advantage.

Ole Miss Rebels @ LSU Tigers

Pick: LSU Tigers

I’ll go with Ole Miss, even though they’re not as strong as I expected them to be this season.

Richmond Spiders @ Elon Phoenix

Pick: Richmond Spiders

I think the Spiders have this one in the bag. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season and seeing how they shape up in their conference.

Washington Redskins @Detroit Lions

Pick: Washington Redskins

I’m conflicted about this one — Normally I would go with the Lions, but the Redskins seem pretty unstoppable right now.

tracey-smith-web-2Tracey Smith, 8News Reporter (Last week – 2-6, Overall – 25-23)

Hopewell Blue Devils @ Matoaca Warriors

Pick: Matoaca Warriors

If I remember correctly Hopewell was hot earlier this season, but I just have a feeling this Friday will belong to Matoaca.

North Carolina Tar Heels @ Virginia Cavaliers

Pick: North Carolina Tar Heels

Honestly, I’ve had the worst luck when it comes to the Cavaliers. I pick them and they lose. I pick against them and they win. So all I know is that I will probably be wrong.

Eastern Michigan Eagles@ Western Michigan Broncos

Pick: Western Michigan Broncos

Last year, Western won, and I think they take the W again this year too.

Arkansas Razorbacks @ Auburn Tigers

Pick: Auburn Tigers

Their records are pretty close so I’m giving Auburn the home field advantage on this one.

Texas A&M Aggies @ Alabama Crimson Tide

Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide

I told you I won’t bet against the Crimson Tide. Roll tide roll!

Ole Miss Rebels @ LSU Tigers

Pick: Ole Miss Rebels

Easy pick, not that my record shows for much accuracy, but I’m going with Ole Miss for this one.

Richmond Spiders @ Elon Phoenix

Pick: Richmond Spiders

I’ve been picking the spiders all season. And will continue to do so… that is until they play JMU.

Washington Redskins @Detroit Lions

Pick: Washington Redskins

After having to apologize to my dad for betting against him, I’m picking Washington.

Chip VT 2Chip Brierre, 8Sports Anchor (Last week – 4-4, Overall – 22-26)

Hopewell Blue Devils @ Matoaca Warriors

Pick: Matoaca Warriors

They upset Meadowbrook this past weekend, and play everybody close. Cameren Hill is still hurt for Hopewell and sadly the Blue Devils are underachieving. Matoaca continues to make its case for another postseason appearance.

North Carolina Tar Heels @ Virginia Cavaliers

Pick: Virginia Cavaliers

I know UNC is in control of the Coastal Division right now, but if I’ve learned anything nobody really truly controls the Coastal. We’ll all learn that when the Hoos upset Carolina at home, they’re due for a breakthrough.

Eastern Michigan Eagles@ Western Michigan Broncos

Pick: Western Michigan Broncos

Just a guess, I don’t know much about either team. I know Western Michigan’s team has an up and coming coach, that’s through word of mouth on College Gameday, though, so take this pick lightly.

Arkansas Razorbacks @ Auburn Tigers

Pick: Auburn Tigers

Gene Chizik’s rear must be well done in the hot seat at Auburn. Arkansas beat Ole Miss, still think Auburn is the likely winner at home.

Texas A&M Aggies @ Alabama Crimson Tide

Pick: Alabama Crimson Tide

Crimson Tide… Juggernaut…. Not even close… Untouchable….

Ole Miss Rebels @ LSU Tigers

Pick: Ole Miss Rebels

LSU’s program is in a down year, plus the Rebels need a pick me up from their loss to Arkansas.

Richmond Spiders @ Elon Phoenix

Pick: Richmond Spiders

Spiders keep winning, by any means necessary. With James Madison coming to town in two weeks, Richmond will take care of business in a tough road game to set up a matchup for the CAA title.

Washington Redskins @Detroit Lions

Pick: Washington Redskins

Remember when I said 12 percent of teams that start 0-2 make the playoffs? Redskins are the minority now in a good way, they’re 5th in the NFC ahead of Green Bay and all of a sudden look better off than we originally thought when the schedule was released during the summer. They win vs. Detroit and against the Cincinnati Bengals in London the week after, Redskins will be 6-2, the record Mitch and I both said would put them in prime position to make another postseason run.
