CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WRIC) – Nearly two months after a deadly shooting at a house party in Chesterfield County, seven men have been arrested in connection to the crime. Six of them are charged with murder, and all seven are charged with gang participation.
Neighbors said they are relieved to see the suspects behind bars.
“We have grandchildren,” said Marianna Thatcher, who heard the shots ring out during the early morning hours on September fourth. “I don’t want anything horrible to happen to them.”
For Thatcher and others who live in the Chesdin Landing Subdivision, the past six weeks have been filled with fear.
“It’s scary,” Thatcher said. “It’s become as scary place. It’s not like when I grew up.”
During a house party at an unoccupied home in early September, 22 year-old Duval Turner and 24-year-old Marc Starkes were found shot to death at the house on Chesdin Green Way. The home was still under construction at the time.
“It was very anxious and distraught,” Thatcher’s daughter, Alysha London, said describing the confusion that filled the neighborhood as police looked for the suspects. “No one knew what the heck precipitated, any of it.”
In the weeks that followed, neighbors reported unusual activity near the house where the men were killed.
“Once police shut (the crime scene) down, there were cars driving around. Suspicious cars.”
In a raid this week involving multiple agencies, authorities arrested Dijon Bowles, Kennson Clairsaint and Corey Harris. Police also arrested Kendric Hill, Devin Taylor and Tevon Todd, charging the men with murder and gang participation.
A seventh suspect, Devontrey Harris was also arrested on gang participation charges but does not face murder charges.
“It relieves my mind to know they’ve been arrested,” Thatcher added.
The suspects were arraigned in court on Friday. The investigation is ongoing.
